Ph.D. Candidate Johns Hopkins: Cellular and Molecular Medicine
Johns Hopkins Fast Forward U hosted a two-day entrepreneurial event known as The Start-Up Experience. During the first day, we divided into total six teams representing six different startup ideas. We covered various aspects of building a startup, developing presentation skills and performing market research. On the second day, we were introduced to market research and identified potential pitfalls that startups may encounter.
We had a couple of hours to interview potential customers and get overall opinions from different people regarding the startup. Before the end of the second day, we were given about an hour to build a slide deck and pitch for 4 minutes to a panel of three judges. There were many great ideas and excellent pitches representing startups that aim to increase accessibility to drones in resorts, improve physician-patient communication by adjusting scripts to be patient-friendly, set up a better way to match potential candidates with workplaces, and many more.
At the end of the pitch, the judges decided to award Modular Labs with the first place $1000 Spark grant to pursue their startup goals. The team members were Johns Hopkins Ph.D. candidates Yoga Prakasa and Dimitri Tselenchuk. Modular Labs is currently expanding and is in the search for additional members that want to join a growing startup. If you are interested, please email firstname.lastname@example.org, in the email subject write “Modular Labs startup interest” and include some skills you can bring to the startup.
